“Salvador Dalí – Journey into the imagination of a genius” in Hungary. https://www.daliuniverse.com/2023/03/25/salvador-dali-viaggio-nella-fantasia-di-un-genio-in-ungheria/ Sat, 25 Mar 2023 08:07:53 +0000 https://daliuniverse.it/?p=3186 Wednesday, 22. March 2023
“Painting is my least important aspect. What really matters is the almost imperialistic structure of my genius. Painting is only an infinitesimal part of that genius.” Salvador Dalí

“Salvador Dalí – Journey into the imagination of a genius” in Hungary.

The Dalí Universe is pleased to collaborate with HADRAN and announce the opening of the exhibition “Salvador Dalí – Journey into the imagination of a genius – The unlimited/boundless Dalí” scheduled for this Thursday 23 March 2023.

The Dalí Universe Collection will be presented for the first time in Hungary and can be visited until the end of June 2023.

Salvador Dalí was not just a painter, but a multifaceted artist in the true sense of the word. An iconic personality of the surrealist movement, Dalí explored a wide variety of artistic expressions, ranging from painting to sculpture, from literature to cinema, to furnishings, jewelery and advertising.

The exhibition will be organized at the Kompex building located in Budapest, in Király u. 26, and will present more than 150 works, including bronze sculptures, surrealist furniture, graphics, gold works and jewel sculptures, which will reveal the richness of the expressive variety that the Catalan artist has chosen to illustrate his famous surrealist icons.

The museum-sized sculpture “Space Venus”, designed by Salvador Dalí in 1977, will enrich the exhibition by showing the public some of the most famous and well-known Dalinian symbols: the soft clock, the ants and the egg.

These symbols confirm the extraordinary ability of the genius of Surrealism in processing emotions, memories, experiences lived during childhood, and transforming them into the third dimension. Dalí himself stated: “My work is the reflection, one of the innumerable reflections of what I create, write, think”.

The glass paste sculptures, created in collaboration with the prestigious French glassmaker Daum Cristallerie, amaze with the richness of their colors and shapes. The works and gold coins, another material used by Dalí in his creative process, recall the jewels of the court of Louis XIV.

The exhibition will also feature a Dalí Illustrator. Graphics of various sizes will emphasize the extraordinary Dalinian fantasy, the dreamlike dimension and distorted reality, as in the engraving “After 50 years of Surrealism” (1974), up to embracing the themes of classical literature, as in the print “Much Ado about Shakespeare ” (1968).

Dalí’s creativity can also be admired through surrealist furniture. Specifically, his famous “Mae West Sofa” confirms the multifaceted aspect of the personality of the genius of Surrealism and his extraordinary ability to draw inspiration from the people he met and invite them to observe objects according to a different interpretation.

The prestigious Dalí Universe Collection was collected by Beniamino Levi, President of Dalí Universe, passionate art collector and great connoisseur of Salvador Dalí, with whom he collaborated during the 1960s.

Beniamino Levi was fascinated by Salvador Dalí’s ability to use different means of artistic creativity and dedicated his entire life to collecting Dalí’s works; especially his three-dimensional creations. During the years of collaboration with Dalí, Levi commissioned the Catalan artist to create a series of bronze works based on the most famous iconographic images present in his pictorial production.

Today, the prestigious Dalí Universe Collection of works of art is the result of years of intense work by President Beniamino Levi, who began collecting the works of Salvador Dalí in 1956, when he opened his Art Gallery in Milan in Via Montenapoleone.

“I am honored to present part of the Dalí Universe collection for the first time in Hungary” comments Beniamino Levi regarding the exhibition “Salvador Dalí – Journey into the imagination of a genius – The unlimited/boundless Dalí” in the city of Budapest.

The exhibition will show visitors the genius of Surrealism within the exhibition itinerary organized in the Kompex building in Budapest, the Catalan artist who declared: “Painting is my least important aspect. What really matters is the almost imperialistic structure of my genius. Painting is only an infinitesimal part of that genius”..

“The only difference between me and a madman is that I am not mad.”

Salvador Dalí

Dalí Universe in collaboration with Next Exhibition and the Dreams Cultural Association, with the patronage of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain and the Metropolitan City of Turin, is proud to present the exhibition “Salvador Dalí – The Exhibition” at the Palazzina of Caccia di Stupinigi, the Savoy Residence located in the municipality of Nichelino, near Turin, built between 1729 and 1733 based on a design by the Italian architect and set designer Filippo Juvarra.

For the first time, the ancient kitchens of the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge will host the works of the Dalí Universe Collection, offering the extraordinary opportunity to admire Dalin’s iconic work within the splendid spaces of the Palazzina commissioned by the Savoys and declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Around one hundred authentic works by Salvador Dalí, including sculptures of different sizes, illustrations and glass works, will be exhibited at the “Salvador Dalí – The Exhibition” exhibition starting next Saturday 12 November 2022.

Among the bronze works, the exhibition will present the sculptures “The Dance of Time” and “The Nobility of Time”, created by Salvador Dalí in the 70s and 80s, and dedicated to time and the emotions it arouses due to its soft quality, destined to melt after a “paranoid-critical” reading.

Among the Daum Works, one of the most interesting collections in the world of colored glass sculptures, born from the artistic collaboration between Salvador Dalí and the prestigious French glassworks Daum Cristallerie, the public will be able to admire “Ciclope” (1968), “Guitar” (1971) and “Anti-Fiore” (1971).

“Salvador Dalí was not just a painter, but a multifaceted artist in the true sense of the word,” states Mr. Beniamino Levi, President of Dalí Universe, adding: “Dalí himself declared `Painting is an infinitely small part of my personalityʼ”.

“Of all the exponents of Surrelism, Salvador Dalí was the only one to fully embody and live the fundamental principles,” says Beniamino Levi. “The itinerary that we have organized inside the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi will reveal to the public the works of Dalí the sculptor, Dalí the illustrator, and Dalí the designer, with the aim of making the versatility of the master of Surrealism known and appreciated”.

Dalí loved Italy and visited many Italian locations between 1935 and 1937. In the autumn of 1935, together with his wife Gala and the English poet and collector Edward James, Dalí arrived in Turin; subsequently he continued his journey towards Modena, Rome and Amalfi, where he stayed for a few months at the Villa Cimbrone, as a guest of the poet.

The works that Dalí created in this period in Italy were the direct consequence of the countless trips and stays between Turin, Rome, Florence, Lucca, Amalfi; and the fruitful collaborations, such as the one started with the Italian stylist Elsa Schiaparelli.

“Perhaps, without direct contact with Italy, Salvador Dalí’s art would not have germinated as it appears to us today,” concludes Beniamino Levi, “We are honored to be able to exhibit the Dalí Universe Collection in Turin, a location that seals the strong bond between Dalí and Italy, a bond that can be seen in all the artistic production of the Catalan master”.

The exhibition “Salvador Dalí – The Exhibition” will open this Friday 11 November 2022 and will remain open to the public until Sunday 19 February 2023.

Guernica: genesis of a masterpiece. The war painted by Picasso and the Neorealists. https://www.daliuniverse.com/2022/07/03/guernica-genesi-di-un-capolavoro-la-guerra-dipinta-da-picasso-e-dai-neorealisti/ Sun, 03 Jul 2022 08:37:00 +0000 https://daliuniverse.it/?p=3213 Wednesday, 20. July 2022
Guernica: genesis of a masterpiece. The war painted by Picasso and the Neorealists.

Today, Wednesday 20 July 2022, the exhibition “Guernica: genesis of a masterpiece” will be inaugurated. The war painted by Picasso and the Neorealists” at Palazzo Ferretti, in via Nazionale n. 45 in Cortona, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany.

This is an exhibition that will offer the opportunity to admire 42 graphics taken from the preparatory drawings made by Pablo Picasso for his famous 1937 painting, entitled “Guernica”, and 17 works, including oils and engravings, created by Neorealist artists, including Renato Guttuso, Antonio and Xavier Bueno, Aligi Sassu and Giuseppe Migneco.

In his work “Guernica”, Picasso managed to immortalize on canvas the massacre and violence of the most remembered episode of the Spanish civil war, with such extraordinary power and effectiveness as to transform the painting into a symbol against the violence of every war and a extraordinary icon of peace.

Before creating the final canvas, Picasso made numerous preparatory drawings and sketches. The graphics taken from these drawings constitute the central nucleus of the exhibition presented by Dalí Universe inside the rooms of the 18th century Palazzo Ferretti, designed and frescoed by the Nuremberg painter and architect, Marco Tuscher.

The preparatory drawings of Picasso’s masterpiece, inspired by the bombing of the Basque town of Guernica on 26 April 1937, present the key figures of the final composition.

“These preparatory drawings, which today are part of the permanent collection of the Prado Museum in Madrid”, announces Beniamino Levi, President of the Dalí Universe, “are extraordinary drawings that tell the different states of mind through which Picasso passed during his creation of the most visited painting in the world after Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa'”.

In the year 1990, Picasso’s heirs authorized, with an unprecedented decision in the history of art, a limited edition of this incredible work which can be admired at the Palazzo Ferretti. This edition constitutes a fitting tribute to those who work for world peace and brotherhood between nations.

The inauguration of the exhibition has been set for Wednesday 20 July 2022. The exhibition will open to the public on Thursday 21 July 2022.

The exhibition “Guernica: genesis of a masterpiece. The war painted by Picasso and the Neorealists” can be visited until 6 January 2023.

Dalí and Hitchcock: “SPELLBOUND – Scenography of a Dream”. https://www.daliuniverse.com/2022/04/12/dali-e-hitchcock-spellbound-scenografia-di-un-sogno/ Tue, 12 Apr 2022 09:09:00 +0000 https://daliuniverse.it/?p=3221 Tuesday, 12. April 2022

“I could have chosen De Chirico or Ernst, but no one was as imaginative and extravagant as Dalíˮ.

Alfred Hitchcock

This Wednesday 13 April 2022 the exhibition “SPELLBOUND – Scenography of a Dream” will be inaugurated at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta located in the historic center of Naples.

The exhibition is presented by Dalì Universe and curated by Mr. Beniamino Levi, President of Dalì Universe, in collaboration with Phantasya Communication directed by Roberto Pantè.

Approximately sixty authentic works by Salvador Dalí, including sculptures of different sizes, illustrations, glass works, furnishings and the Universal Tarot, will be exhibited in the internal spaces of the basilica church dedicated to the Virgin which overlooks Piazzetta Pietrasanta.

This is an exhibition that will offer the opportunity to admire eleven museum sculptures by Salvador Dalí, a selection of small museum sculptures and surrealist furniture, and the monumental sculpture Persistence of Memory.

Among the works that are part of the Surrealist Furniture, the public will be able to admire the Mae West Sofa, the result of the collaboration between Dalí and the English poet and collector Edward James. While, among the Daum Works, one of the most interesting collections in the world of colored glass sculptures, born from the artistic collaboration between Dalí and the prestigious French glassmaker Daum Cristallerie, we mention Vénus aux Tiroirs and Vert d’Espagne.

The centerpiece of the exhibition will be the spectacular monumental painting Spellbound, the result of a unique collaboration between Alfred Hitchcock and Salvador Dalí.

In 1945, Hitchcock commissioned Dalí to create the monumental painting Spellbound (5 by 11 metres), visible in the film of the same name (which appeared in Italy with the title “I will save you”), whose protagonists were Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck, legendary movie stars.

Hitchcock’s 1945 film “Spellbound” was one of the first films to deal with the theme of Freudian psychoanalysis. The painting was used as a backdrop to film the dream scene of “I Will Save You,” vividly capturing the illusory nature of the subconscious state, where reality is embellished by repressed thoughts and the hidden workings of the mind.

Dalí was a natural choice for this film as he was deeply interested in the topic of psychoanalysis; Furthermore, he had not only met Freud personally, but had depicted him in his works of art.

Dalí used his creative genius to challenge preconceived notions of reality and normality, effectively expressing a dream world based on the recurring image of an eye.

As Hitchcock himself said: “I could have chosen De Chirico or Ernst, but none were as imaginative and extravagant as Dalí.”

“The “SPELLBOUND – Scenography of a Dream” exhibition will be an extraordinary journey into the fantastic mind of the genius of Surrealism and the genius of Psychoanalysis”, comments Mr. Beniamino Levi, adding: “the public will live a dream within the path museum created in the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta, one of the most interesting churches in Naples from a historical and artistic point of view”.

The exhibition “SPELLBOUND – Scenography of a Dream” will open to the public this Thursday 14 April 2022 and can be visited until 30 September 2022

Salvador Dalí a Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgio. https://www.daliuniverse.com/2022/03/16/salvador-dali-a-sint-martens-latem-belgio/ Wed, 16 Mar 2022 13:35:00 +0000 https://daliuniverse.it/?p=3231 Wednesday, 16. March 2022

This Friday, 18 March 2022, the “Exclusieve Dalí Tentoonstelling” exhibition will be inaugurated with the exhibition of a selection of sculptures and graphics from the Dalí Universe Collection at the art gallery The Boutique Gallery, located in the city of Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium.

The exhibition is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Dalí Universe and the Boutique Gallery, which brings to the Belgian city the exceptional collection of bronze sculptures created by the master of Surrealism, and the unique opportunity to admire the richness of surrealist iconography Daliniana that the Catalan artist created during his lifetime.

“For the first time, The Boutique Gallery hosts the sculptures and graphics of the Dalí Universe Collection, offering the extraordinary opportunity to admire Dalí’s iconic work within the splendid spaces of the Belgian art gallery,” announces James Sanders, Project Manager of the Dalí Universe.

Among the twelve sculptures of the Dalí Universe Collection that Mr. Beniamino Levi, President of the Dalí Universe, began collecting in the 1960s, following his meeting with Salvador Dalí, the exhibition will display “Alice in Wonderland”, the “Nobility of Time” and the “Horse with Soft Clock”.

Fourteen graphics from the Dalí Universe Collection will be exhibited alongside these sculptures, revealing the spectacular artistic creativity of Salvador Dalí. Among them we mention “Omaggio alla moda”, “Flordali I” and “The Puzzle of Life”.

“Salvador Dalí was not just a painter, but a multifaceted artist in the true sense of the word,” states Mr. Beniamino Levi, adding: “Dalí himself declared `Painting is an infinitely small part of my personalityʼ”.

The multiple edition bronze sculpture “Nobility of Time” will illustrate to the public Dalin’s obsession with time through the soft clock, one of Dalí’s best-known images, which has its origins in the famous 1931 painting, “The Persistence of Memory”.

It was Beniamino Levi himself who inspired Dalí’s sculptural production. During meetings with the Catalan artist, Levi had noticed Dalí’s fascinating ability to use different mediums to express his art, and decided to dedicate his entire life to collecting Dalí’s works, focusing on three-dimensional creations.

The “Exclusieve Dalí Tentoonstelling” exhibition will remain open to the public until Sunday 29 May 2022.
